Koeman pushes for new signings

Barcelona have six days to put the finishing touches to their squad ahead of the new season.

The Catalan club are still chasing a couple of deals, which they hope to complete before the transfer window shuts on October 5.

Ronald Koeman prioritised the signings of a new right-back, centre-back and striker after taking over as coach, putting forward his own suggestions.

One of those was Sergino Dest, who arrived in Barcelona on Tuesday night and is expected to have a medical on Wednesday before being presented as a new Blaugrana player on Friday.

The Catalans will pay 20 million euros plus five million in add-ons to Ajax for the 19-year-old right-back, who will sign a five-year deal at the Camp Nou.

Koeman personally insisted on the signing of Dest, especially after Nelson Semedo left for Wolves, because he knows him well.

The American international can play as a left-back too, which is useful for Koeman, who still doesn't trust Junior Firpo in that position.

Other options

As for Barcelona's pursuit of a striker, Koeman is pushing for Memphis Depay to arrive from Lyon.

The club's main target is Lautaro Martinez, but Inter's 90 million euro asking price is a difficult one to match for a club going through financial difficulties.

Barcelona and Inter have spent months negotiating over the Argentine's proposed move, with the player wanting to join the Blaugrana.

Now, though, Barcelona know the deal is impossible to do this year, although they're refusing to rule it out completely.

With Lautaro unlikely to come, Koeman has insisted on signing Depay, who is much more affordable in the current market.

According to L'Equipe, Lyon are prepared to let the forward go four 25 million euros, which could fall as low as 15 million.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has made it clear that, if they want to sign the Dutch international, Barcelona must do so before Friday.

Before Monday's deadline, the Catalan club are trying to work out the numbers as they plot moves for Dest, Depay and also Manchester City's Eric Garcia.

Rafinha and Junior Firpo could appear in these deals as makeweights.
