Zinedine Zidane appeared to speak to the media in an online press conference ahead of his side's LaLiga clash with Villarreal at the Alfredo Di Stéfano (Thursday, 9:00pm CEST): “Tomorrow will be most likely be the most difficult game we've had recently. Villarreal are a team who have shown they know how to play some good football and will be tough opposition".
There's lots of noise here about celebrations, holidays, but tomorrow we have a match to play and that's it. We have to focus our energies on tomorrow's game and nothing else. The players and everyone working here are focused only on tomorrow. Everything else is irrelevant".
"No, not at all. It's great to see the energy we're displaying every single day. We're motivated in our daily efforts. We don't know what will happen beyond that”.
Would he take two draws?
“We're here for one thing; to win tomorrow's game. That's what motivates us and we prepare for that, nothing more. Tomorrow we're going to go out to give it our all, like we do in every game, and our opponents will do the same. We have to focus on tomorrow's match, it's going to be tough”.
“There are many similarities but the most important thing is how the player feels. I left football at 34, but I'm sure Modric wants to continue and he's having a great season. We know the player he is and we enjoy him and Ramos, who is also 34".
Digging in in Granada
“I think the second half was less impressive than the first but in the end we were able to dig in, but it was hardly the end of the world. The team stood strong until the end".
“He's better, feeling good and he's back with us. He's not feeling any of the discomfort he had a few days back and that's a good sign for us. The important thing is that he's 100% and we'll see how to deal with it”.
"Players come in here and know what the club is all about, we're always ambitious. When we went back to work after the confinement, the players wanted to do big things following three months at home. You could see it in training. The talk is always about matches, but in our sessions I see a group of players training brilliantly, they wanted to stay behind to work afterwards and that tells you all you need to know about this team”.
Recognition for the coach
“I'm lucky to be at this club and I enjoy every day. That's what keeps me going, it motivates me. All the talk about me doing well won't change the way I am".
Benzema Ballon d'Or
“I think my players are the best. Karim has been performing very well for many years, but as always, only one player can win the Ballon d'Or and everyone can have their opinions. If you ask me whether my players deserve it, I think they all do”.
“We're thinking about our fans because a lot of people have had a very rough time and football is a way to forget and to escape a bit. We want to keep doing what we're doing, working hard to achieve things and thinking about our fans because they can't come and watch the games. They're seeing what we're doing and I want them to be proud of this squad. We have to keep going until the end and we'll see”.
“I'm focused on what I'm doing and I believe in my team, in the people I have around me, to make sure the work is done. There are ups and downs, but the sun will always come back out and that's what makes me feel I'm very fortunate to be here and I intend to keep enjoying it”.
Will Bale leave?
"We're focused on tomorrow's game and Gareth is, too. He's one of us. We're united and we think the same way. Gareth, James and everyone here thinks the same”.
