Bayern Munich have confirmed the signing of Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig.
The Bavarian club have activated the defender's release clause and will pay 42.5 million euros to sign him.
"We're happy that we've been able to sign Dayot Upamecano," Bayern board member Hasan Salihamidzic said in a statement on the club's official website.
"We're convinced that Dayot will be a very important member of our team in the coming years."
Upamecano will join Bayern on July 1, 2021, and has signed a five-year deal with the German, European, and world champions.
David Alaba's replacement
Bayern needed to bring in a new defender, with David Alaba set to leave this coming summer.
Nagelsmann's anger at Bayern Munich for announcing Upamecano signing
RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann cut a frustrated figure in his press conference after Bayern Munich announced the signing of their centre back Dayot Upamecano next summer just before their match with Augsburg.
The Frenchman will become a Bayern player after the Bavarians paid his release clause of 42.5 million euros.
"I can confirm it, we are very happy," said Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic minutes before RB Leizpig's game with Augsburg.
Julian Naggelsman didn't like the Bavarians' announcement at all.
"Regarding Upamecano, it is indeed the case that Bayern confirmed the transfer. We did not confirm anything, so you will have to ask them," he said.
"My team and were focused on today's game, even 20 minutes before. So other things did not matter."
"I know that Upa has a release clause for this summer, so I know that it is not our decision, but the player's.
"You have to ask the people who have to make an announcement 20 minutes before a Bundesliga match. I was only focused on Augsburg and I am happy with our overall performance today," he said after their 2-1 win.
