Thomas Müller backs "exceptional" Leroy Sane

Thomas Muller believes Leroy Sane will be a vital player for his country in the coming years.

The Bayern Munich and Germany star says Sane is “an exceptional talent” and he has total belief his ability.

It’s a welcome boost for the flying City winger, who endured a disappointing summer after missing out on the World Cup.

Sportskeeda report: “Thomas Muller insists Leroy Sane will be a major factor in the future of Germany's national team.

“Sane was left out of Germany's ill-fated World Cup campaign in Russia despite helping Manchester City to a record-breaking Premier League triumph in 2017-18 and winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

“The 22-year-old was back in Joachim Low's squad for the Nations League opener against world champions France, even though he has only made three substitute appearances for City this term and was left out of Pep Guardiola's matchday 18 for the 2-1 win against Newcastle United last time out.

“A late cameo during last week's 0-0 draw in Munich was followed by Sane leaving the squad for the birth of his daughter and missing the 2-1 friendly win over Peru.

“Prior to the France match, Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos raised eyebrows by questioning Sane's attitude, but Muller has no such doubts over the former Schalke youngster.

‘He's an exceptional player with abilities that only very few bring,’ the Bayern Munich star told Sport Bild.

‘I think Leroy is now mature enough and I trust him a lot for the future.

‘It's up to us to help him produce his best performances in the national team. All players are required, not only Leroy.’

Elsewhere, David Silva has given a lengthy interview to Match of the Day’s Premier League Show.

Silva talks about his career, family life and the moment he opted to join the Blues – something he says was the best decision he made.

He says: ‘City wanted me. They had been calling me since December, asking me to come and play for them.

‘I thought, - who wants me? City want me, so that's where I'll go.

"Back then I was living with my parents and they were getting divorced and it was the right time to get away from there, from Spain, and live a new experience. It turns out I made the right move.’

The creative genius calls the City boss a visionary, adding: ‘Pep Guardiola sees things before they happen and that's an advantage - a massive plus.

‘It's like he explains it to you and you grasp it straight away. Something that I'd never seen before. And this goes for all areas: from the keeper through to the striker. In the past, some of my trainers had focused more on attack, others more on defence - but he covers the whole pitch.

‘I think I've learned to be more patient on the pitch; I used to move around a lot and wanted to be all over the place. He's taught me to stick to a more determined zone and wait for the ball to get to me to give us the upper hand. So, yes, I've improved in that sense.

‘He's a footballing genius.’

Meanwhile. The Bleacher Report claim City are keeping a watching brief of one of France’s unexpected stars of the World Cup last summer.

They write: “City have become the latest club to be linked with Stuttgart's France international defender Benjamin Pavard.

“Per Le 10 Sport (h/t The Sun's Anthony Chapman), the Premier League champions are attracted by his versatility, as he can play at right-back or centre-back.

“Pavard made a name for himself at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, when he scored a spectacular goal in the 4-3 last-16 victory over Argentina.

“His strike was chosen as the tournament's best goal.

“The 22-year-old's performances in Russia have fuelled rumours over his future. He has played down speculation linking him with a move to Bayern Munich.

‘You journalists said I had signed for Bayern, but I am happy at Stuttgart,’ he told L'Equipe earlier this month.

‘The World Cup arrived sooner than I expected, even for me. My plan was to stay another season in Germany. I am at a very big club with fantastic fans. I have signed nothing.’

Finally, City’s Carabao Cup defence will begin at a noisy and packed Kassam Stadium later this month.

The Oxford Mail report: “Oxford United have sold all their tickets for the Carabao Cup tie with Manchester City later this month.

“The final few spaces were snapped up this morning, two days before they were due to go on general sale.

“The third round tie will be played on Tuesday, September 25.

“It is the first time United have sold out since February 2017, when they beat Newcastle 3-0 in the FA Cup.

“City's allocation of 1,197 tickets do not go on sale until tomorrow.”

And they, too, will no doubt be quickly snapped up – we’ll be back with more City news and gossip tomorrow…
