Real Madrid ended their tour of the United States in style as Gareth Bale showed that he was ready for the new LaLiga season by almost single-handedly taking Roma apart in a 2-1 victory for Los Blancos.
It did not take too long for the European champions to get off the mark, even after the delayed kick off. Gareth Bale found the time to spray a stunning ball over to Marco Asensio, which split the Roma defence apart, with the Spaniard then controlling well before finishing with relative ease.
Bale was then at the centre of attention again but this time it was him who got the final touch before the ball found the net. Dani Carvajal claimed the assist as he played a good ball down the line to the Welshman, who then took matters into his own hands and cut in from the right before finishing.
Roma continued to struggle to announce themselves on the game and looked completely blunt in attack while Real Madrid dominated the ball.
Bale looked to turn provider again as he tried to pick out Karim Benzema but slightly misjudged his cross to the Frenchman.
It almost certainly would have become three before half-time had Marcano not found himself in the right place at the right time to block a near open goal for Asensio to tap into.
The usual flurry of substitutions happened after the break and the game's flow was understandably interrupted as a result. Bale continued to threaten until his exit on 56 minutes for Lucas Vazquez.
Vinicius arrived for the game's other goalscorer and came close himself within minutes of his entrance, but his shot from the edge of the box flew over the crossbar.
Patrik Schick then missed a big opportunity to pull one back for the Romans. Excellent combination play from Lorenzo Pellegrini and Ante Coric ended up with a ball finding Schick, who somehow headed off target.
The youngster made amends soon after though as he assisted Kevin Strootman and the Dutchman pulled a goal back for the Italians.
Roma tried to push for an equaliser in the ten minutes that remained but it was not to be as Real Madrid hung on to all three points.
