Serie A Matchweek 17: Danilo, Ramsey and Cristiano Ronaldo on target as Juventus beat Sassuolo (3-1)

Juventus kept pace with their competitors in Serie A with a 3-1 win over Sassuolo at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday night.

Andrea Pirlo, who was already without Alex Sandro, Juan Cuadrado and Matthijs de Ligt because of coronavirus reasons, was forced to take off Weston McKennie and Paulo Dybala in the first half due to injuries to both players.

There were problems for Sassuolo, too, who were reduced to 10 men just before half time when Pedro Obiang saw his challenge on Federico Chiesa upgraded to a red card after a VAR review.

Just a few minutes into the second half, Juve make the most of their man advantage, with Danilo driving the ball into the bottom corner from range.

Gregoire Defrel netted an unlikely equaliser for the visitors before Aaron Ramsey restored Juve's lead with eight minutes to go.

As they pushed for another leveller in stoppage time, Sassuolo were caught on the break as Cristiano Ronaldo guaranteed the points.

The former Real Madrid forward is now just two goals behind Josef Bican's all-time record of career goals in football of 762.

The win takes Pirlo's men into the top four in Serie A, with the gap to leaders AC Milan now seven points again.
