Gabi's summer departure has seen Diego Godín promoted to become Atletico Madrid's captain and he'll lead his team out against Real Madrid for Wednesday night's UEFA Super Cup.
Alongside him will be Sergio Ramos, who has won the past three Champions Leagues with Real Madrid since taking over from Iker Casillas in 2015 and who already knows what it's like to lift silverware with the captain's armband.
For Godin, this won't be the first time he takes part in the pre-match handshakes with Ramos, having been the captain in Gabi's absence in the last Madrid derby of the 2017/18 LaLiga season.
This time, though, there is much more at stake.
Interestingly, both players are the leaders of their team as well as their back lines, with both considered amongst the very best centre-backs in the world.
In fact, Godin's stock is so high that Manchester United made advances during the summer, only for Godin to decide to remain in the Spanish capital.
