Joleon Lescott, the former England international who counts Manchester City, Everton and Aston Villa among his clubs, will finally not be appearing for Racing Murcia in their Copa del Rey match against Levante.
The 38-year-old retired in 2017 but weeks ago Racing Murcia announced he had signed to play in their Copa del Rey game at home to Levante this Wednesday.
The club confirmed on Tuesday, however, that Lescott would not be featuring in the game, despite the club claiming to have done all the necessary paperwork.
"After the club completed all the necessary paperwork to finalise the signing, Joleon Lescott was not able to travel to Spain and undergo COVID-19 testing in the timeframes set out by the RFEF (Spanish Football Federation), making the player's participation in the Copa del Rey game against Levante impossible," a club statemente explained.
Press reports last month suggested that Lescott had been surprised when the club announced his signing.
