For the second consecutive season, Southampton suffered a 9-0 defeat as they were hammered by Manchester United on Tuesday.
Saints ended the game with nine men, but United's nine goals were shared across eight goalscorers - one of those coming from Southampton's own Jan Bednarek, who was later sent off to make his night worse.
Warning signs were there from the off, as the night started badly for the visitors. Alex Jankewitz, on his debut, was shown a straight red card inside 90 seconds for a dangerous challenge on Scott McTominay.
United didn't look back from that moment on, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka put them ahead in the 18th minute, before Marcus Rashford doubled their lead shortly after.
Bednarek put into his own goal, and Edinson Cavani headed in a fourth before half time.
Saints started the second half looking to show some pride and fight, but it wasn't to last.
Anthony Martial and McTominay scored in quick succession to make it six, but things took another turn when Bednarek was dismissed after giving away a late penalty, sending Southampton down to nine men.
Bruno Fernandes converted, Martial added another in the 90th minute, and Dan James completed the scoring by grabbing United's ninth in stoppage time.
