A chink appeared in Atletico Madrid's armour in LaLiga Santander as they conceded a late equaliser to draw 2-2 with Celta Vigo on Monday night.
The disappointing result comes against the backdrop of growing concern within the Atletico camp about the number of players testing positive for coronavirus. In the hours before kick off, Thomas Lemar and Hector Herrera were both confirmed to have contracted COVID-19.
The hosts were slow to start their meeting with Celta at the Wanda Metropolitano, too, with Santi Mina heading the visitors into a lead in the 13th minute.
Diego Simeone's side didn't find a leveller until the brink of half time, when Marcos Llorente's low cross was turned in by Luis Suarez.
The veteran Uruguayan was on hand to put Atletico in front in the second half, this time latching on to Renan Lodi's cross to find the net.
The hosts' advantage was almost extended by Jose Maria Gimenez in the closing stages, with the centre-back shooting just wide from the edge of the box.
However, just as Los Rojiblancos looked to be seeing out a win in typical style, debutant Facundo Ferreyra scrambled in a cross from Augusto Solari - the second nephew of former Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari - to equalise.
The draw means Atletico extend their lead at the top of LaLiga Santander by just one point and are now eight points ahead of second-place pair Barcelona and Real Madrid. Celta sit in 10th.
