LaLiga Matchweek 2 preview: Atletico Madrid stumble at Levante (1-1)

Atletico Madrid missed a golden chance to extend their sizeable advantage at the top of LaLiga Santander on Wednesday against Levante.

Los Rojiblancos started the evening five points ahead of Real Madrid with two games in hand, yet could only manage a 1-1 draw at the home of Las Granotas.

Diego Simeone's side have been living a little dangerously in recent weeks, looking a little more exposed than they had in the early months of the season and, just like against Celta Vigo, they were made to pay for their sloppiness.

Enis Bardhi put the hosts ahead after just 17 minutes, capitalising on an error from Jose Maria Gimenez which put the North Macedonian through on goal.

The opener came as a wake up call for Atletico, who slowly began to grow into the game from that point on.

The ever lively Angel Correa had a shot on goal soon after, as did Luis Suarez, though they didn't trouble Aitor Fernandez.

Then it was Marcos Llorente's turn and the 'false' striker showed the real ones how to do it, albeit fortunately. The former Real Madrid man tried his luck from distance which flew past Aitor via a deflection to level the match.

Llorente continued to look Atletico's most dangerous outlet along with Suarez, yet looked depleted as the game wore on.

Simeone's changes failed to make an impact and the visitors had to rely on Jan Oblak once or twice so as to avoid going back to Madrid empty handed.

Atletico are now six points ahead of Real Madrid, with just one game in hand.
