Jurriën Timber gives Ajax the win against Watford

In Saalfelden, Austria, Ajax posted a win in their friendly match against Watford FC, 2-1.  The Amsterdam goals were scored in the second half by Donny van de Beek and Jurriën Timber.

Ajax made an outstanding start against Watford.  The Premier League club was immediately put under pressure, which resulted in several scoring opportunities for the Amsterdam team right off the bat.  Quincy Promes (3 opportunities), Perr Schuurs (long distance shot), Kasper Dolberg (header), Veltman (header goal, but offside) just came up a tad short in the finish.

Schöne en Kotarski on squad

Compared tot he duel against Basaksehir, there were two changes in the starting eleven.  Lasse Schone replaced Carel Eiting and Dominik Kotarski took over Bruno Varela’s spot in goal.  Most of the squad players were on for 60 minutes, except for Daley Blind, Schoen and Razvan Miran, who only played 45.  Sergiño Dest and Kotarski were the only ones to play the full 90 minutes.

Watford, an FA Cup finalist last season, didn’t put up much resistance, but, via a penalty (hands Dest) took the lead in the 39th minute.  Andre Gray sent the ball irretrievably past Dominik Kotarstki from twelve yards out.

After the break, Ajax scored the well deserved tying goal.  Dusan Tadic sent a pass from the back line in the 52nd minute.  Dolberg made a useful transition, after which Van de Beek scored his first goal of the pre-season.  After an hour, the big changes happened.  Ajax remained the dominant team, which resulted in a win shortly before the end.  In the 89th minute, Jurriën Timber sent a header into the far corner: 2-1.
