Julio 'Maldini' Maldonado has given a damning verdict on Real Madrid after their 4-1 defeat to Valencia. Los Blancos were the authors of a string of errors at Mestalla, giving away three penalties and conceding an own goal. "Real Madrid have a problem," Maldini said after the game. "They're not defending well. They've conceded goals in their last seven games and that's no coincidence. They're very soft in defence and playing without rhythm, like today, doesn't favour them."
Marco Asensio was one of the players Maldini singled out for criticism, although he wasn't alone. "I didn't like Asensio," Maldini added. "We can't pick out individuals but the Mallorcan isn't making the most of his opportunities and today they had to take him off.
"Another one who had a poor game was Marcelo, who is truly behind [Ferland] Mendy now. He doesn't have the attacking influence anymore and you can get past him too easily defensively.
"The absence of Casemiro was key. When he's not there, you notice it a lot. Real Madrid don't have a back-up in that position and neither [Fede] Valverde nor [Luka] Modric can fill in there; they're inexperienced in that position, although the Croatian wasn't bad in the first half. The same with [Karim] Benzema, who scored a great goal."
