Romelu Lukaku penalty was enough for Inter to pick up three important points at home to Napoli on Wednesday evening.
Antonio Conte's side are under pressure to mount a serious title challenge in Serie A after being eliminated from Europe by finishing bottom of their Champions League group, and they appear to have responded to that pressure with some good recent results.
Hosting Gennaro Gattuso's Napoli was always likely to be a big test of their credentials, and the first half saw both sides look cagey.
The Nerazzurri had the better of the second half though, and were handed a penalty when David Ospina fouled Matteo Darmian in the area. Lorenzo Insigne then saw red for his protestations of the decision.
Lukaku stepped up and converted for the game's only goal, allowing Inter to go within a point of leaders and city rivals AC Milan, who slipped up with a 2-2 draw at Genoa.
