Carlo Ancelotti's Everton came out on top in a nine-goal thriller against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup on Wednesday, winning 5-4 in extra time after eight goals were shared evenly in 90 minutes.

A 97th-minute winner from Bernard sealed Everton's place in the quarter-finals and sent Jose Mourinho's side packing.

Spurs led inside three minutes as Davinson Sanchez opened the scoring, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson put Everton 3-1 ahead. Erik Lamela levelled things up at 3-3 in first-half stoppage time.

Richarlison restored Everton's lead in the second half before Harry Kane equalised late on to force extra time.

Bernard scored in the first half of extra time and there were to be no more goals.
