Bernardo: Manchester City will respond in the right way

Bernardo Silva backed Manchester City to respond in the right way despite the blow of an opening Champions League group F defeat to Lyon.

City opened our European campaign on a disappointing note by slipping to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the French visitors.

But despite the setback, with five games in the group still remaining the Portuguese midfielder, who gave City hope with a second half goal, said the Blues players were eager to right the wrongs of the Lyon result over the rest of the European campaign.

Reflecting on the evening, Bernardo admitted: “We have to focus on a poor first half when we weren't at our best. We didn't press with our usual intensity.

“We were not good enough tonight. It is what it is. We didn't want to start this way but that's the way it is. We have to go after the next game.

"We are not favourites. We have a good team and want to do well in the competition and we will try to do better than last season."

Those thoughts were echoed by defender John Stones.

The England central defender admitted City had paid the price for a disappointing first half display but said there was still all to play for in Europe.

"(It was) Really disappointing. To concede two goals like we did is very frustrating," Stones admitted.

“We came in at half-time a bit deflated. We picked ourselves up and played a better second half but it was frustrating.

"It is the first game. Still early days. We put pressure on ourselves. There is no outside pressure. We know our strengths and weaknesses.

“We go again in the next game. There are still a lot to play and we should be positive about that."
