Bale: From 0 to 100 at Villarreal

Just over five years since his first Real Madrid goal at the home of Villarreal, Gareth Bale returns to the same ground intent on reaching his 100th for Los Blancos.

It was on 14 September 2013 when the Welshman made an instant impact on his Real Madrid debut following his big money move from Tottenham Hotspur, scoring at Estadio de la Ceramica in a 2-2 draw.

As Santiago Solari's side prepare for the first match of 2019, some 2,303 days after Bale's debut goal, the 29-year-old needs just two more to reach a century in the famous white jersey.

It is a ground with fond memories for Bale, not only for his debut but also as he has scored in the last two seasons at the Ceramica.

In the 2016/17 season under Zinedine Zidane, Bale scored a fantastic header in a 3-2 turnaround win while, last season, Madrid again came back from two goals down to earn a point, with the former Spurs man netting the team's first.

Bale now returns to Villarreal revitalised following an excellent Club World Cup display where he was named the best player in the competition, and Solari will be hoping that he can continue that form heading into the second half of the campaign.

This campaign, he has been able to play more frequently due to better luck with injuries and he will be hoping to reach his first century as a Madrid player on Saturday.
