Atletico Madrid recorded an impressive 2-0 win away to Real Sociedad on Tuesday evening to extend their lead at the top of the LaLiga Santander table. Los Rojiblancos now have a three point lead over Real Madrid in second and have still played a game fewer than the champions, though Los Blancos have the chance to draw level again on Wednesday when they face Granada.
Two goals in the second half from Mario Hermoso and Marcos Llorente were enough for Diego Simeone's side to take the points, as they kept yet another clean sheet against one of this season's most impressive sides in Spain's top tier.
Atletico were solid at the back, and an exhibition of efficiency up front, showing real signs of what leaders need. It should be noted again that they are in this position on December 22 - it's not early in the season anymore.
The opening goal came from Hermoso's head on the end of a Yannick Carrascocross. A freekick from deep was put into the area and the defender sent a looping effort past Alex Remiro from around 12 yards out.
Another cross led to the second. Luis Suarez made a clever run to the left, from where the cross came to him, and held the ball up nicely before offloading to Carrasco. The Belgian, in turn, teed up Llorente to finish off a fine move.
La Real immediately made three changes, with Portu even being replaced, but Atletico were able to see the game out from there.
