It has not been a simple integration for Thibaut Courtois at his new club.
Having been presented on August 9, he was at an immediate disadvantage to Keylor Navas, who joined the team on the tour of the US on July 29.
Not only that, but the Costa Rican had three seasons as a starter with as many Champions League titles under his belt.
But on that same day, Courtois announced a fight.
He reminded the media that when he arrived at Chelsea in 2014 he faced a similar situation with Petr Cech and went on to make 39 appearances in his first season at Stamford Bridge.
Although that did not compare to his 56 with Atletico Madrid the previous season, it was a starting point for him at the West London club.
On Saturday, almost four weeks after being presented by Real Madrid, Courtoisdebuted with his new club, after being made to wait until the third round of LaLiga Santander so Julen Lopetegui could avoid altering the status quo too soon.
"Happy with my debut and with the victory," he announced afterwards, before adding a "Hala Madrid!"
He fulfilled a lifelong dream by debuting for the club that he dreamt of playing for since childhood when, in 2002, Iker Casillas gave him a Madrid jersey in Brussels.
It was a peaceful debut for the Belgian, only tainted by a penalty scored by Leganes in the 25th minute.
