47 years later, Atlético de Madrid will face Cagliari once again

For Atlético de Madrid, whenever Cagliari is mentioned it’s impossible not to remember the magical European Cup knock-out tie that took place nearly 48 years ago. This Wednesday, that tie will have a repeat when Simeone's side play a friendly against Cagliari. Let’s remember some epic Atlético history.

The first leg was played in Italy and Cagliari dominated the first half. Rodri, Atleti's keeper, had a great performance, but the match ended 2-1. Luis Aragonés scored in the 77th minute to keep Madrileans hopes alive.

The return leg at the Manzanares (later named Vicente Calderón) was an epic night for all Atlético fans. The stadium was packed and Rojiblancos fans pushed their team to a great 3-0 win, with Luis Aragonés scoring a brilliant hat-trick. That match was one to remember for all Atléticos and this Wednesday, they will cross paths with Cagliari once again to continue getting prepared for the new 2018-19 season which is just around the corner.
